In a landmark move, the Delhi government will launch Ayushman Cards for all residents aged 70 and above, regardless of income, by the end of April 2025. This initiative, under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), promises health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for over 1,500 medical procedures, ensuring financial protection for Delhi’s elderly.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, following a high-level meeting with MLAs and cabinet ministers, made the announcement for the speedy distribution of these cards and 1,139 Arogya Mandirs to be opened in the city. These new centres shall provide special services different from the Mohalla clinics so that quality healthcare could reach every locality.
MLAs were entrusted with facilitating distribution activities and determining places where the Arogya Mandirs will be set up. The government also initiated a seamless Aadhaar-based e-KYC process for simplified enrollment, thus making Delhi the 35th state/UT to implement the scheme. The elderly will be assisted in enrolling and enjoying this landmark health expansion through a special campaign in the near future.
