An accidental blast rocked the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar on the night of November 14-15, 2025, killing nine people and injuring 32, including police officers and forensic team members. The explosion occurred during examination of a large cache of explosives linked to a ‘white-collar’ terror module investigation. Officials confirmed no terror angle and termed the incident accidental.
In response, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 10 lakh for each deceased family and Rs 1 lakh for severely injured individuals. This compensation will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Health Minister Sakina Itoo visited victims’ families and hospitalized injured persons, assuring government support.
The blast caused severe structural damage to the police station and surrounding buildings. The investigation is ongoing, and the government urged caution against speculation. Medical teams at Ujala and SMHS hospitals continue treating the injured, with some in critical condition.
