West Indies captain Hayley Matthews has inscribed herself into the records books, placing herself in a select group of just three West Indian women to have surpassed 3000 runs in Women's One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The 27-year-old all-rounder reached the milestone during the first ODI against South Africa at the 3Ws Oval in Barbados, cementing her position in the sport as one of the greatest of the contemporary era.

Key Highlights
  • Historic Achievement: Matthews entered the match needing just 30 runs to join the elite 3000-run club, previously exclusive to Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin among West Indians. She scored 40 runs, taking her career tally to 3010 runs in 94 innings at an average of 33.82 and a strike rate of 76.06.
  • Elite Company: Matthews is followed by only Taylor (5856 runs from 168 matches) and Dottin (3785 runs from 149 matches) among West Indian women to reach the 3000-run barrier in ODIs. Only 27 women from across the world have joined this barrier.
  • Impressive Century Rate: Matthews has nine centuries—most among West Indian women and the fifth-most overall in women's ODI history. Her century-to-fifty ratio is impressive, nine centuries and seven fifties.
  • Recent Form: Matthews' mark came in a win, West Indies defeating South Africa under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method to take the three-match series 1-0.
  • On Course to Break More Records: With just 97 matches played so far, Matthews is very likely to break Taylor's West Indies all-time record if she continues in the same way and remains fit.
  • Earlier Milestones: Matthews has always been a match-winner, such as her 119-run knock against New Zealand during the 2022 World Cup opening match, which paved the way for the West Indies team.
Matthews' latest win not only demonstrates her talent and consistency but also gives hope to the next generation of Caribbean cricketers.

"Her conversion rate is also the highest we've ever seen in the format because she now has nine centuries against seven fifties. Those nine centuries are a West Indian record and the fifth-most overall." — SportsMax
