The much-awaited 8th annual summer hockey camp was inaugurated at Bassi Pathana, marking another milestone in the town’s celebrated hockey legacy. The five-day camp began with a spirited ceremony led by Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind and Olympian Surinder Singh Sodhi, IG (Crime), Punjab. The event is organized by the Mehar Baba Charitable Trust (MBCT), a local NGO renowned for nurturing hockey talent.
Participation and Coaching Excellence
A total of 116 under-14 boys and girls are participating in this year’s camp, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for hockey among the youth.
International-level coaches have been brought in to provide world-class training, ensuring young athletes receive expert guidance.
Inspiring Moments
Dr Sona Thind, addressing the gathering, lauded the dedication of the young players and urged the youth to embrace sports for discipline, sportsmanship, and a healthy lifestyle.
Olympian Surinder Singh Sodhi expressed his admiration for the players’ skills and the MBCT coaches’ commitment, stating that the future of Indian hockey looks promising with such talent on display.
Community Impact
Bassi Pathana, often called the “nursery of hockey,” continues to produce national-level players, thanks to the sustained efforts of MBCT.
MBCT Trustee Maj Gen (retd) Surat Singh Sandhu and Managing Trustee Hassan Singh Mejie shared insights into the trust’s broader social initiatives, highlighting their commitment to holistic youth development.
