Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said China is "not behind" in AI and called Huawei "one of the most powerful tech companies in the world" at a Washington tech conference. He noted that the U.S. and China are "very, very close" in the race for AI chips, with Huawei having made "tremendous strides" in computing and network technology central to AI development.
Huawei AI drive: Launched world's first AI Core Network (March 2025) and enhanced 5G-Advanced infrastructure with AI-driven O&M and service monetization.
U.S. sanctions: Trump trade restrictions on export of Nvidia H20 chips to China could run the company to the tune of $5.5 billion Q1 losses, as per SEC filings.
China's plans: Aims for deploying 200+ petaflops of AI computing horsepower by 2025, assisted by state-led R&D efforts and partnerships with firms like Tencent.
Huang called on U.S. policymakers to implement "industry-focused energy policies" to stay competitive.
