The Dubai campus is a product of sustained diplomatic engagement between India and the UAE. The idea was first proposed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the UAE, following the successful launch of IIT Delhi’s Abu Dhabi campus. The UAE leadership requested an IIM presence to complement the growing ecosystem of Indian institutions in the region.

During the inauguration, Minister Pradhan emphasized that the campus would showcase the best of Indian education to the world. He also held discussions with UAE’s Acting Minister of Higher Education Dr Abdulrahman Abdulmannan Al Awar to deepen bilateral cooperation in higher education, including joint research, capacity building, and cultural exchange.

The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to making innovation and knowledge exchange central to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations.

Academic Offerings And Campus Vision

The IIM-A Dubai campus will initially offer a one-year full-time MBA program focused on leadership, entrepreneurship, and global business strategy. The curriculum will be adapted to regional business dynamics while maintaining IIM-A’s rigorous academic standards.

Future plans include executive education, short-term certificate programs, and collaborative research initiatives. The campus aims to attract students from the GCC region, Africa, and South Asia, positioning itself as a hub for global talent and thought leadership.

The Dubai campus will also serve as a platform for Indian faculty to engage in international teaching and research, enhancing cross-border academic mobility.

Engagement With Indian Institutions And Schools

As part of his UAE visit, Minister Pradhan also interacted with leaders from Indian universities operating in Dubai, including Manipal University, Symbiosis, BITS Pilani, and Amity. Discussions focused on transitioning research from publication to productization and commercialization.

In a separate event, Pradhan met with principals of 109 Indian curriculum schools in the UAE, joined virtually by CBSE schools across the GCC. He announced the establishment of 12 Atal Tinkering Labs in CBSE schools in the region to promote STEM innovation and entrepreneurship among students.

Symbolic Gestures And Cultural Diplomacy

To commemorate the occasion, Minister Pradhan planted a Ghaf tree sapling at the Indian Consulate in Dubai as part of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam initiative. The Ghaf tree, a symbol of resilience and peace in the UAE, was chosen to represent the enduring friendship between India and the Emirates.

Forward Outlook

The inauguration of IIM Ahmedabad’s Dubai campus marks a transformative moment in India’s global education journey. It not only extends the reach of Indian academic excellence but also strengthens people-to-people ties and economic collaboration between India and the UAE.
