As the southwest monsoon reaches the national capital, Delhi, is expecting a dramatic shift in weather. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning of rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds in the next 36 hours. This as part of the overall monsoon progression in north India.

  • Rainfall: Light to moderate rain showers to be expected during the day, with heavier spells in some areas.
  • Thunderstorms: With lightning and local showers.
  • Wind: Gusts of up to 50 km/h, more so during storm activity.
  • Temperature: A much-awaited drop, with highs of 34–36°C, providing relief from the heat that has been prevailing for the past week.
Monsoon Advancement
  • The monsoon has advanced into parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Punjab, and Haryana.
  • Conditions are favorable for its full arrival in Delhi, Chandigarh, and western UP within the next 24–36 hours.

  • AQI: Remains in the "satisfactory" range, aided by pre-monsoonal rains and surface winds.
  • Humidity: Rising levels can be unpleasant despite cooler temperatures.

  • Residents are asked to stay indoors during thunderstorms.
  • Tie down loose outdoor items and not take shelter under trees if lightning is observed.
  • The commuters need to be ready for potential delays due to waterlogging and low visibility.
