During his historic trip to Argentina, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Javier Milei sat down to discuss how the two countries can work more closely together. This is the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Argentina in nearly six decades, and the timing is significant as the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.

Here are the main takeaways from their talks:

Trade Expansion: Both leaders want to see more business between their countries. Last year, trade reached $5.23 billion, and they’re looking for ways to increase that number.

Mineral Resources: India is especially interested in Argentina’s lithium, copper, and rare earths. These minerals are important for India’s push into clean energy and technology, and Argentina has some of the world’s largest reserves.

Energy Cooperation: The two sides talked about working together on oil and gas. Argentina has huge shale reserves, and India is keen to explore opportunities there.

Defence: India offered to help maintain Argentine military helicopters and suggested new areas for military cooperation.

Pharmaceuticals: Modi raised the issue of Indian medicines facing hurdles in Argentina. Both countries agreed to look for ways toh make it easier for Indian pharmaceutical companies to operate there.

Agriculture and Technology: They’re forming a joint group to share ideas and technology in farming, which could help both countries.

Cultural Ties: Modi was warmly received by the local Indian community and was given the ‘Key to the City of Buenos Aires,’ showing the growing people-to-people connection.

Overall, the visit signals a new chapter in India-Argentina relations, with both sides eager to work together in practical ways.
