Lakshmi Vilas Palace, the imposing dwelling of Maharani Radhikaraje Gaekwad and her family, is located in the heart of Vadodara, Gujarat. Designed by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III in 1890, this architectural wonder spreads over 500 acres and accommodates 170 rooms. It is touted to be the largest private residence in the world—even bigger than the Buckingham Palace.
The estimated value for the palace would be around ₹24,000 crore, said to be surpassing Mukesh Ambani's Antilia estimated at around ₹15,000 crore.
This grand palace is done in the Indo-Saracenic style. The interior designs are lavishly done with chandeliers, mosaics, and valuable paintings by Raja Ravi Varma among others. Spread over an expansive estate, one can find here a golf course, cricket ground, and even the Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum, an art and artefact treasure.
Maharani Radhikaraje Gaekwad, July 19, 1978, hails from the royal family of Wankaner State. Borned from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University and journalist by profession, she married Maharaja Samarjitsinh Gaekwad in 2002. The couple has two daughters and takes active interest in their rich heritage.
