India’s First Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Flagged Off: Overnight Luxury Travel Begins

Indian Railways has entered a new era with the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Express, a semi-high-speed overnight train designed to blend affordability with luxury. Developed by BEML using ICF technology, this train is positioned as a premium alternative to flights and conventional express services.

Key Highlights:

• Launch Date & Venue: Flagged off by PM Modi on January 17, 2026 at Malda Town, West Bengal.
• Route: Howrah–Kamakhya (Guwahati) corridor, covering ~1,000 km in 14 hours, saving nearly 3 hours compared to existing trains.
• Frequency: Operates six days a week, with Train No. 27575 departing Howrah at 18:20 and arriving Kamakhya at 08:20 next morning.

• 11 AC Three-Tier coaches
• 4 AC Two-Tier coaches
• 1 First-Class AC coach with private cabins
• Total capacity: 823 passengers
