India’s Life Sciences Labs Surge Ahead: Managers Declare Labs ‘Future-Ready’ in Global Survey

India's life sciences sector is building a new world standard, with senior managers referring to their research facilities as "future-ready" and better than global counterparts in technology uptake, flexibility, and sustainability, according to the Unispace Global Life Sciences 2025 Survey Report.

Technological Edge:
  • 65% of Indian life sciences leaders indicate that their labs are already highly integrated with emerging technology, compared with the worldwide average of 56%.
Flexibility to Expansion:
  • 66% of Indians think their labs are extremely flexible in terms of future expansion, also ahead of the global average of 56%.
AI and Digital Transformation:
  • 56% of Indian CEOs are concentrating on intelligent, AI-based, or digital technologies in their R&D labs to foster innovation and create future-oriented innovations.
Collaboration-First Spaces:
  • 80% of Indian CEOs report that their labs support cross-functional team cooperation, above the world average of 75%, but lag behind in supporting collaboration by remote employees.
Modular, Flexible Design:
  • Indian managers point out the significance of modular lab environments for collaboration and quick reconfiguration at 54%.
Sustainability Focus:
  • Indian labs are concentrating on smart energy infrastructure, with solar energy, LED lighting, and efficient ventilation being of high interest — for environmental and operational resiliency.
Human-Centric Environments:
  • 57% focus on resting and recharging areas, and 53% focus on beautiful, cozy workspaces to boost talent retention and productivity.
Strategic Partnerships:
  • 66% of Indian firms are funding next-generation laboratory facilities with partnership and co-development initiatives, allowing scalability and innovation.
Survey Coverage:
  • The Unispace survey comprised 400 middle and senior managers from the pharma, biotech, medtech, and digital health sectors in India, the US, UK/Ireland, and Switzerland. "Indian life sciences companies are indeed becoming global leaders in the design of next-generation labs," Unispace India Country Director Abi Roni Mattom said. With an intense focus on digital transformation, sustainability, and employee wellness, India's life science labs are not just catching up—those labs are paving the way globally.
