India’s Steel Crown Grows—Jindal’s Angul Plant Nears Global Supremacy

Jindal Steel and Power Ltd (JSPL) is accelerating its transformation into a global steel powerhouse with two major milestones at its Angul Integrated Steel Complex in Odisha. The company is set to add 6 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of crude steel capacity this year, while also commissioning its first galvanizing line, marking a strategic leap into valueadded steel products.
 
Capacity Doubling:
JSPL’s Angul plant will scale from 6 MTPA to 12 MTPA by the end of FY26, with a 4.6 MTPA blast furnace and 3 MTPA basic oxygen furnace scheduled for commissioning in Q2.
 
Galvanizing Line Debut:
The newly operational galvanizing unit enhances JSPL’s downstream capabilities, enabling production of coated steel for automotive, construction, and appliance sectors.
 
Strategic Vision:
Chairman Naveen Jindal reaffirmed plans to make Angul the world’s largest singlelocation steel plant with a target capacity of 25 MTPA by 2030.
 
Market Impact:
Analysts project a 19% CAGR in volume growth through FY27, with EBITDA expected to nearly double, driven by improved product mix and operating leverage.
 
Execution Speed:
The company recently commissioned a 6 MTPA hot strip mill at Angul in a record 29 months, showcasing its execution prowess.
