This week's insider trading highlights Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Zee Entertainment, which both were in the news for major insider transactions pointing towards confidence and strategic repositioning. Following are the major highlights:

Zee Entertainment witnessed the promoter family buying quite drastically. Shreyasi Goenka, the wife of CEO Punit Goenka, bought 839,490 shares, and their son Udayan bought 840,020 shares. This Rs 200 million investment raised the Goenka family's holding to 0.46%, from 4% earlier. The development comes close on the heels of a positive arbitral tribunal order for Zee, dismissing a Rs 1,340 million claim by Aditya Birla Finance, further buoying investor sentiment. Zee's stock price has surged 18% over the last month, of which a 15% surge across five straight sessions, as the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) also escalated holdings from 20.1% to 22.8% from December 2024 to March 2025.

Mahindra & Mahindra disclosed a series of insider buy and sell transactions. Recent reports indicate top managers, such as Rajesh Jejurikar, buying 19,154 shares at an average price of ₹2,901.40, totaling more than ₹55 million. Other major insiders such as Ujjwal Mukherjee and Binoy Paul also bought shares, indicating management's confidence in the company's future prospects. On the other hand, the Mahindra & Mahindra Employees Stock Option Trust sold 38,922 shares, a normal transaction involving employee stock options.

Market Environment: These insider buying activities are taking place during a strong rally in the Indian markets, especially in the media and automobile sectors. The heightened insider buying in M&M and Zee is viewed as a show of confidence in their growth paths, with the media industry likely to grow at almost 10% per annum and the auto industry reaping the benefits of consistent demand and innovation.
