JioBlackRock Asset Management Private Limited, the recently established 50:50 joint venture between Jio Financial Services Limited (JFSL) and BlackRock, has appointed Sid Swaminathan as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The news comes on the back of the company getting regulatory approval in the form of a certificate of registration from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to operate as an investment manager for its Indian mutual fund business.
Swaminathan, with more than 20 years of experience at BlackRock, has held prior roles such as Head of International Index Equity, managing an AUM of $1.25 trillion, and Head of Fixed Income Portfolio Management for Europe. His extensive experience in asset classes and geographies makes him the best person to helm JioBlackRock's aggressive plans to offer cutting-edge, digitally-innovated investment solutions to Indian investors.
The venture would combine JFSL's digital presence and in-country market knowledge with BlackRock's investment expertise and technology, including its iconic Aladdin risk management platform. JioBlackRock's product will have competitive and transparent pricing coupled with a digital-led customer experience, with a focus on both retail and institutional investors.
Sid Swaminathan added, "JioBlackRock Asset Management is focused on providing institutional grade investment products digitally to investors in India and enriching the country's investment ecosystem. I am privileged to be heading JioBlackRock Asset Management and contributing to reshaping asset management in India by empowering investors to leverage directly the power of investing.".
The company also added to its leadership ranks with key hires such as Komal Narang as Chief Client Officer, R. Arun for the fixed-income business, Prateek Nigudkar as fund manager, and Tanvi Kacheria from BlackRock US.
This strategic expansion is BlackRock's re-entry in India following its exit in 2018 and reflects the joint venture's commitment to transforming the country's asset management industry with global skill and local innovation.
