JP Nadda: Healthy Food & Lifestyle Crucial for Viksit Bharat by 2047

Union Health Minister JP Nadda has emphasized that embracing healthy food habits and a balanced lifestyle is essential for India’s vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. Speaking at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bengaluru, Nadda reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on wellness, urging citizens to prioritize nutritious diets and active living.
 
Highlighting the rising burden of obesity and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), Nadda cited the ICMR–India Diabetes (INDIAB) study, which shows urban obesity has surged by 39.6% since 2008, while rural obesity has increased by 23.1%. He warned that one-third of India’s population could be obese by 2050, stressing the need for awareness campaigns to curb unhealthy eating habits.
 
Nadda also praised FSSAI’s Sugar and Oil Boards initiative, which promotes reduced oil and salt consumption in schools and workplaces. He urged stakeholders to cut oil intake by 10% and adopt traditional foods like millets for better nutrition.
