Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reiterated his government's intent to introduce internal reservation among Scheduled Castes (SCs) after a wide-ranging survey. The two-month timeline has been given to the Justice H.N. Nagamohan Das Commission to conduct the survey, which will ensure uniform distribution of benefits of reservation among SC sub-castes. The initiative is aimed at fulfilling long-pending demands made by communities such as the 'SC Left,' saying that powerful sub-castes have cornered the benefits while others remained marginalized.
The survey will aid in the classification of SC sub-sects and clear confusion due to nomenclature. The government stresses that the process will be carried out without partiality towards any community, following Supreme Court orders. The project is a part of an initiative aimed at reducing social and educational imbalance in the SC community.
The Karnataka Cabinet has cleared the commission's interim report, which will pave the way for the survey and subsequent classification for internal reservation. The government's move is a reflection of its commitment to ensuring fair representation and opportunities for all SC communities.
