President Droupadi Murmu opened the two-day National Conference on 'Environment 2025' at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on March 29, 2025. Hosted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the conference convened policymakers, legal professionals, environmentalists, and students to discuss urgent ecological issues and develop implementable solutions.
Key Highlights:
President's Address: President Murmu highlighted the moral obligation of providing a clean and vibrant environment for generations to come. She appealed to families to place emphasis on environmental quality along with children's education and career plans. "It's our responsibility to consider the air they breathe, the water they consume, and whether they will see green forests and hear the birdsong," she stated.
India's Successes: President Murmu pointed to India's completion of its Nationally Determined Contributions under global pacts well ahead of schedule, demonstrating leadership in sustainable development.
Union Minister's Comments: Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav asserted India's dedication to ensuring economic growth along with sustainability. He pointed out that India has accomplished its Paris Agreement targets nine years before time and is aiming for 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Supreme Court Observations: Justice Vikram Nath emphasized the imperative of addressing air pollution and water pollution, their effects on public health as well as on the health of children.

An "Environment – Students' Perspective" exhibition displayed innovative concepts from universities, while NGT published an e-Journal and a Souvenir Book named Voice of Nature. The event seeks to fill gaps in policy implementation and create awareness about environmental conservation.
The valedictory session on March 30 will be addressed by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar.
