The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) has proposed a ₹57,000 crore investment plan to build Gujarat's Kandla Port as an international maritime center. The facility includes a ₹30,000 crore mega shipyard to construct Very Large Crude Carriers (VLCCs) and maintain 50 vessels annually. Covering an area of 8,000 acres, the complex will also include a marina, fishing harbor, and marine industrial cluster.
Also, a separate ₹27,000 crore cargo terminal at a place other than Kandla Creek will consist of 135 MTPA capacity with modern machinery and efficient evacuation systems. Age-old facilities will be repurposed for liquid cargo handling to maximize vessel turnaround.
The DPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh referred to the record 150.16 MMT cargo movement at the port during FY24-25 and is aiming 170 MMT for next year. This enhancement aligns with India's "Make in India, Make for the World" vision.
