Sepak Takraw, previously a niche sport in India's Northeast, has leaped to national prominence with its first foray as a medal sport at the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2025 in Bihar. The development follows India's historic gold at the ISTAF World Cup and consecutive Asian Games medals, ushering in a new era for the acrobatic sport.

Bihar, the new shocker powerhouse, has witnessed Sepak Takraw action explode to more than 600 players statewide. Bihar State Sports Association, with the government's support, has intensified training camps to improve competitive standards, while Bobby Kumar, part of the World Cup-winning team, is mentoring a new generation.

Dr. Karunesh Kumar, KIYG Bihar 2025’s competition manager, calls the sport’s inclusion a “milestone moment,” crediting Prime Minister Modi’s vision for sports promotion. As Sepak Takraw steps onto the national stage, Bihar’s home team eyes medals in all four categories, making the 2025 Games a launchpad for the sport’s nationwide growth.
