In a moment steeped in nostalgia and reverence, Sachin Tendulkar, one of cricket’s most iconic figures, had his portrait unveiled at the MCC Museum at Lord’s Cricket Ground on July 10, 2025, ahead of the third Test between India and England. The unveiling marks a historic tribute to the Indian maestro, whose cricketing journey was deeply inspired by Lord’s.

The Artwork & Artist
  • Painted by Stuart Pearson Wright, the portrait is a larger-than-life depiction of Tendulkar’s head and shoulders, set against an abstract background symbolizing his timeless legacy.
  • The painting was based on a photograph taken at Tendulkar’s home 18 years ago, and will be moved from the MCC Museum to the Pavilion later this year.
  • Wright has previously painted Indian legends Kapil Dev, Bishan Singh Bedi, and Dilip Vengsarkar, but opted for a fresh approach with Tendulkar’s portrait.
A Day of Honors
  • Tendulkar also had the honor of ringing the iconic five-minute bell at Lord’s to signal the start of play—reserved for cricketing greats.
  • He watched the match alongside dignitaries including former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and met fellow Indian legend Farokh Engineer.
Tendulkar’s Reflections
“I first visited Lord’s as a teenager in 1988... I remember standing near the pavilion, soaking in the history and dreaming quietly. Today, to have my portrait unveiled at this very place is a feeling that’s hard to put into words. Life has truly come full circle. I’m grateful, and filled with wonderful memories,” Tendulkar shared on social media.

Legacy in Context
  • Though Tendulkar never scored a century at Lord’s, his impact on the game is immortalized through this tribute.
  • The portrait joins a prestigious collection of nearly 300 artworks in the MCC’s historic gallery, which dates back to the Victorian era.
