Make in India Goes Global—PM Modi Sends Locomotive to Africa, Unveils ₹5,700 Cr Boost for Bihar

In India's maiden effort for manufacturing and export drive, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the nation's firstever 'Made in India' export locomotive to the Republic of Guinea from the Marhowra Diesel Locomotive Plant in the Saran district of Bihar. The event signals India's formal foray into the international locomotive export market under the "Make in India – Make for the World" vision.
 
Key Highlights:
  • Global Launch: The train that was flagged off is one of 150 ordered for Guinea's Simandou iron ore project, one of the largest mining projects in the world.
  • HighTech Wonder: Wabtec India produced the locomotives, which boast 4,500 HP engines, AC propulsion, regenerative braking, and ergonomic cabins with stateoftheart amenities.
  • Mass Effect: The ₹3,000 crore export order will create 2,000+ jobs, 99% of which will be from Bihar.
Infrastructural Boost:
PM Modi also opened development schemes worth ₹5,700 crore in Bihar, which include:
  • VaishaliDeoria rail connection (₹400 crore)
  • Vande Bharat Express from Gorakhpur to Patliputra
  • Six sewage treatment plants of Namami Gange (₹1,800 crore)
  • Sanitation and water schemes (₹3,000 crore)
  • 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System to enhance clean energy capability
This twopronged drive—export quality and homegrown development—cements Bihar's place in India's industrial resurgence and global trade picture.
