Anurag Basu's much-awaited love anthology Metro… In Dino wrapped up its opening weekend with a small but reassuring box office performance. The July 4 release, which is a spiritual follow-up to Basu's 2007 cult classic Life… In A Metro, has an ensemble cast in place against backdrop of contemporary romance.

Weekend Collection Highlights

Day 1 (Friday): Rs 3.5 crore

Day 2 (Saturday): Rs 6 crore

Day 3 (Sunday): Rs 7.25 crore

Total weekend collection: Rs 16.75 crore (India net)

Occupancy Trends

Sunday's total Hindi occupancy stood at 39.75%

Evening shows peaked at 57.14% attendance

Afternoon programmes were behind at 46.62%, with morning and evening programmes trailing behind

Cast & Concept

It stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Ali Fazal, and Fatima Sana Shaikh

It weaves four intertwined stories of romance, heartache, and rediscovery across different age groups

Pritam's score infuses a sense of soulfulness, narrating the rise and fall of love affairs in the city

Critical Reception & Audience Pulse

Reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with compliments for Basu's lyrical narrative and emotional resonance of the film

But the film has not broken into the top 10 opening weekends of 2025

It has crossed the lifetime figures of Life… In A Metro, which had reached Rs 15.63 crore

Challenges Ahead

Even with the Sunday pick-up, the movie has managed to fetch nearly 22% of its budget of Rs 85 crore

It faces tough competition from Rajkummar Rao's Maalik, Vikrant Massey's Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, and Hollywood giants Jurassic World Rebirth and F1

Closing Note Metro… In Dino is no hit in the making yet, but its tasteful approach to love amidst uncertainty has struck a chord among citydwellers. Whether it will be able to gather enough momentum throughout the week to make this metro ride arrive at its destination instead of halting at the next station only time will tell.
