Modi Powers Up India-Angola Partnership: $200 Million Defence Boost & Energy Ties Surge

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Angolan President João Lourenço have ushered in a new era in India-Angola relations by celebrating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties with a spate of strategic announcements in energy, defence, and infrastructure.

PM Modi renewed India's traditional solidarity with Angola, reminiscing about India's support during the Angolan independence struggle and hailing four decades of diplomatic association.
India, the largest consumer of Angolan oil and gas, will further intensify its energy cooperation, enhancing trade and investment in this critical area.
A USD 200 million defence credit line was announced to finance the modernization of the Angolan defence forces, including cooperation in repair, overhaul, provision of defence platforms, and military training for Angolan servicemen.
The two leaders decided to boost collaboration in digital public infrastructure, space technology, and capacity building to propel technological and developmental progress in Angola.
Bilateral cooperation will expand in healthcare, diamond processing, fertilizers, and strategic minerals, with India sharing the resources and expertise.
Cultural ties remain vibrant, with yoga and Bollywood being popular in Angola, and launching a youth exchange programme to promote people-to-people contacts.
PM Modi extended a welcome to Angola's accession to the International Solar Alliance and extended an invitation for further involvement in Indian-initiated global initiatives like the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Global Biofuels Alliance.
The two leaders condemned terrorism, with Angola showing solidarity following the recent Pahalgam attack, and Modi committing firm action against terror threats.
India's interaction with Africa remains to intensify, with commerce reaching almost USD 100 billion, more extensive diplomatic postings, and substantive development aid.
