PM Narendra Modi extended greetings on International Cheetah Day, praising wildlife lovers and conservationists for protecting the planet's fastest land animal. He highlighted Project Cheetah's success, with 32 cheetahs thriving in India—including 21 India-born—urging global tourists to witness them at Kuno National Park.
On International Cheetah Day, observed annually on December 4 since 2010 by the Cheetah Conservation Fund, Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared an inspiring message on X, lauding dedicated conservationists and wildlife enthusiasts. He spotlighted Project Cheetah, launched three years ago on September 17, 2022, which reintroduced eight cheetahs from Namibia and 12 from South Africa to Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh—the first since extinction in 1952 due to hunting.
India now hosts 32 cheetahs, with 21 born locally, including five cubs from India-born female Mukhi in November 2025. Many flourish at Kuno and Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary, boosting cheetah tourism. Modi credited "Cheetah Mitras" and public support, aligning with India's ethos of harmony with nature toward biodiversity revival and AIDS-like elimination goals for cheetahs.
Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav plans to release three cheetahs into the wild today, marking further progress amid initial skepticism now proven wrong.
