As the revered Palkhi processions of Sant Tukaram Maharaj and Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj sweep through Pune and PimpriChinchwad, the PCMC (Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation) has gone into full emergency mode to ensure safety amid heavy monsoon showers.

Key Highlights:
  • 24x7 Control Rooms: All zonal control rooms are operational roundtheclock with teams working in three shifts to monitor waterlogging, crowd movement, and emergencies.
  • Flood Preparedness: Over 15 rescue boats and 200 life jackets have been deployed across floodprone zones near the Pavana and Indrayani rivers. Quick Response Teams (QRTs) are stationed at critical points in Bhosari, Dighi, and Nigdi.
  • Traffic & Crowd Management: PCMC, in coordination with local police, has implemented road closures, diversions, and noparking zones along key routes like Nigdi–Dapodi, Dehu–Alandi, and Dighi–Bopkhel. Live tracking of the Palkhi is available via Pune Police’s official social media.
  • Hoarding Safety Drive: Over 1,400 hoarding agencies have been directed to inspect and reinforce structures along the procession routes to prevent accidents.
  • Health & Sanitation: With over 719 sanitation points, medical aid centers, and disinfection drives underway, PCMC is also on alert for waterborne diseases.
  • Public Advisory: Citizens are urged to avoid nonessential travel along procession routes and report emergencies to the flood control helpline: 02067331111 / 02028331111.
With spiritual fervor rising and the skies pouring, PCMC’s proactive measures aim to ensure that faith and safety walk hand in hand.
