India has carried out a large-scale civil defense mock drill across more than 275 districts, aiming to enhance disaster response capabilities and public awareness. The exercise, initiated by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, included blackout simulations, air raid drills, and emergency evacuation procedures.
The mock drill was conducted in response to evolving security concerns, including recent tensions along international borders and the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities emphasized the importance of preparedness in handling unforeseen crises, ensuring that civilians and emergency responders are equipped to act swiftly.
The drill featured participation from state disaster response forces, police units, and civil defense volunteers. In Maharashtra, exercises were held in Mumbai and coastal districts, while Jammu and Kashmir’s State Disaster Response Force conducted a specialized drill at Dal Lake, simulating a boat capsize scenario. Security measures were also heightened in major cities, including Delhi and Kolkata.
Officials stated that the feedback from these drills will be used to assess resource needs and improve coordination among emergency services. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening national security and disaster management frameworks.
