Vodafone Idea Ltd (Vi) has made a formal clarification confirming that it has not received any official word from the Government of India regarding any relief on its whopping ₹84,000 crore Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues.

This statement comes amid a flurry of media reports suggesting that the government is considering a range of measures to ease Vi’s financial burden—including extending the repayment period to 20 years and switching to simple interest calculations. While these reports triggered a 6% surge in Vi’s stock price, the company emphasized that no formal proposal or confirmation has been received from the authorities.

Vi’s clarification aims to temper investor speculation and maintain regulatory transparency. The company reiterated that any material developments will be disclosed in accordance with listing obligations.

The government, which holds a 48.99% stake in Vi following a spectrum dues-to-equity conversion, has not publicly commented on the matter. However, it has previously expressed interest in maintaining a competitive telecom landscape and avoiding a duopoly.
