Next‑Gen Learning: NCERT’s NEP Textbooks Are More ‘How to Think’ Than ‘What to Think

In a major move towards the rollout of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released new textbooks for Classes 5 and 8. The textbooks have been developed in line with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 and will encourage creativity, conceptual clarity, and experiential learning.

Key Highlights

Class 8 textbooks are: • Curiosity – Science • Kaushal Bodh – Vocational Education • Kriti – Art • Poorvi – English • Malhar – Hindi

Class 5 additions are:
• Veena – Hindi
• Santoor – English

Pedagogical Transformation

The new material emphasizes inquiry-based learning, interdisciplinarity, and application-based learning

The stories of national heroes like Major Somnath Sharma and Verghese Kurien have been incorporated to teach values of patriotism and bravery

Vocational modules bring practical skills to link learning in the classroom with employment

Distribution & Access

Although not yet available on Amazon India in hard copy or e-book format, the textbooks are available on Amazon India

NCERT has guaranteed the coming rollout to be in the near future, including UP Board schools for almost one crore students

Prospects This book launch is a transformative moment in Indian education, shifting from rote learning to all-round development. As more grades shift to NEP-compliant content, the classroom experience is set to become more interactive, inclusive, and future-ready.
