Nissan, Honda, and a Mexican Connection

Current car news reports major news concerning Nissan and Honda, although there is no direct link to a Mexican person in these reports. Nissan's merger negotiations with Honda fell apart over differences in organizational structure and shareholding ratio. Nissan's CEO, Makoto Uchida, resigned after this failure and poor financial performance, with Ivan Espinosa succeeding him. Espinosa has experience in Mexico, having served in Mexico while working at Nissan.

 

Honda, on the other hand, has opted to relocate production of its next-generation Civic hybrid from Mexico to the United States because of possible tariffs. This is in line with wider industry fears over trade policy impacts on car manufacturing.
