ITC has shut its own e-commerce site, ITC Store, which it launched during the pandemic to keep up with growing online demand. The company says the platform had done what it was meant to do and that it now makes more sense to focus on third-party apps like Amazon, Blinkit, Zepto, and Swiggy Instamart, where most of its digital business is already happening.
Sales through online platforms have grown fast. ITC says digital channels now make up 31% of its FMCG business, nearly double from what it was in 2020. The company has also been building up its niche websites like classmateshop.com and dermafique.in to offer more curated and premium products, but it’s clearly betting big on platforms that already have reach.
This move comes as shopping habits evolve and competition in quick commerce keeps heating up. For now, visitors to the ITC Store website will see a simple message: “Not processing any orders currently.”
In short, ITC’s new game plan is to go where the shoppers already are, instead of trying to get them to come to one more site.
