In a recent interaction, ex-Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir spoke about the omission of wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant from the playing eleven, basing it on the team policy of not playing two keeper-batsmen simultaneously. According to Gambhir, "KL is our No. 1 choice and we can't play two keeper-batters," speaking of KL Rahul as the first-choice wicketkeeper-batsman. He also mentioned that though Pant is an asset, team management would like it to be maintained in balance through not having two like-for-like players. This says a lot about the balance in a team and how difficult it is to have more than one talent at a particular position. Gambhir was also confident about Rahul's potential and believed in being patient and encouraging in lean times, as all players have them.
