Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pitched the Northeast as the focal point for India's 'Heal in India' scheme, envisioning the region as a global wellness, medical tourism, and holistic healthcare center. Modi was speaking at the Rising North East Investors Summit 2025 in New Delhi when he referred to the Northeast's untouched biodiversity, pure environment, and organic lifestyle—"the perfect destination for wellness"—and invited investors to tap into its immense potential for wellness-related businesses.
Modi pointed out that the climate and ecological variety of the Northeast are well-suited to attract the world's health seekers, in line with India's aspiration to be the world's health and wellness solution leader. The Prime Minister said that the change in the region is not merely statistical but evident on the ground, with huge investments in education, infrastructure, and skill development—in excess of ₹21,000 crore in the past decade alone.
He also pointed out the Northeast's rising prominence in organic farming, energy, semiconductors, and eco-tourism, and called for leveraging these strengths to make Indian wellness brands household names worldwide. "For us, EAST means Empower, Act, Strengthen, and Transform," Modi stated, reaffirming the government's determination in putting the Northeast at the lead of India's development story.
