In a dramatic and unprecedented move, India’s armed forces launched “Operation Sindoor” in the early hours of May 7, 2025, striking deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) to destroy the headquarters of two of the world’s most notorious terror groups-Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). The operation, meticulously planned and personally monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was executed in response to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives last month.

Key Highlights
Nine Terror Sites Targeted:
Indian forces carried out precision strikes on nine terror sites, including the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur and the LeT base in Muridke, both in Pakistan’s Punjab province. Other locations targeted include Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Gulpur, Sarjil, and a site near Sialkot.

Tri-Services Operation:
The coordinated assault involved the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, using beyond-visual-range and standoff cruise missiles. The strikes were described as “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” with no Pakistani military facilities targeted-only terror infrastructure.

Major Terrorist Casualties:
At least 30 Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed in Bahawalpur, and 17 terrorists confirmed dead overall, with dozens more injured. The strikes were designed to cripple the leadership and training pipelines of both JeM and LeT.

No Indian Losses:
Contrary to Pakistani claims, Indian government sources confirmed that no Indian jets or drones were lost during the operation.

Airspace and Civilian Impact:
Srinagar Airport was shut for civilian flights, and airspace restrictions impacted flights to several northern Indian cities. Pakistan declared emergencies at Lahore and Sialkot airports in response to the strikes.

Global Diplomacy:
Senior Indian officials briefed counterparts in the US, UK, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Russia immediately after the operation. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval personally updated US officials, emphasizing the precision and restraint of India’s actions.

Public and Political Response:
The operation was widely welcomed across India, with leaders and citizens hailing it as a decisive blow against cross-border terrorism. BJP leaders noted that the public had demanded strong action after the Pahalgam attack.

“This strike shows India’s intent to finish Pakistan-sponsored terror for good. Pakistan never acted against these terror factories of globally proscribed organisations like JeM and LeT,” a senior official said.

Operation Sindoor marks a new chapter in India’s fight against terrorism, delivering a powerful message to terror groups and their sponsors while maintaining a measured military posture.
