India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast nonstop rain in and around Pune throughout the week, issuing an orange alert for western Maharashtra's ghat roads, i.e., Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara. The alert indicates very heavy rain, which is induced by active cyclonic systems and the advancement of the southwest monsoon.

Key Highlights:
  • Orange Alert Issued: IMD has issued a very heavy rain alert in the ghat belts until June 18, with Raigad under a red alert for very heavy rain.
  • Cyclonic Systems Convergence: Two upperair cyclonic systems—over Bay of Bengal and over Marathwada—have merged, enhancing precipitation over South Madhya Maharashtra.
  • City Forecast: Pune will see cloudy conditions and light to moderate rains until Thursday, with the intensity likely to subside over the weekend.
  • Rains over the Weekends: Localities like Lavale (25.5 mm), NDA (19.5 mm), and Shivajinagar (55 mm) experienced heavy rains, leading to waterlogging and traffic.
  • Monsoon Advance: Weather remains favorable for the monsoon to advance to the entire state, while further advance is expected into Gujarat, Vidarbha, and Odisha in the next 24–72 hours.
Citizens are expected to remain cautious, avoid visiting vulnerable areas, and heed local advice as the monsoon intensifies over Maharashtra.
