JSW Energy Limited has taken a major leap in India’s clean energy transition, with its subsidiary JSW Renew Energy Five signing a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) for a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). This marks the first phase of a larger 500 MW/1,000 MWh project, positioning JSW Energy at the forefront of the nation’s grid modernization efforts.
Key Highlights:
Massive Storage Milestone: The 250 MW/500 MWh BESS will allow 250 MW of battery power to provide backup for two hours, significantly enhancing grid reliability and renewable integration.
Revenue Certainty: JSW Energy will receive a fixed capacity charge of ₹10.84 lakh per MW per month for 12 years for 60% of the total capacity (150 MW/300 MWh). The company will manage the remaining 40% (100 MW/200 MWh) independently, offering flexibility and potential upside.
Fast-Track Timeline: The project is mandated to deliver contracted capacity within 18 months, accelerating India’s energy storage deployment.
Strategic Growth: With this agreement, JSW Energy’s locked-in energy storage capacity rises to 3.4 GWh, supporting its ambitious target of 40 GWh storage and 20 GW generation capacity by 2030.
Green Commitment: The company aims for a 50% reduction in carbon footprint by 2030 and full carbon neutrality by 2050, underscoring its leadership in sustainable energy.
This agreement not only cements JSW Energy’s role as a clean energy pioneer but also signals a new era for large-scale battery storage in India’s power sector.
