The 8th Elite Women's National Boxing Championship came to a close in Greater Noida, as the Railways team established itself on top by winning five gold medals and a combined nine podium finishes. Anamika Hooda and Nupur were among the stars who retained their titles in the light flyweight and heavyweight divisions, respectively. Sonia Lather joined the list of gold medalists in the 60kg division, as Sanamacha Chanu and Muskan also chipped in with impressive performances.
Haryana trailed only a step behind, standing second with six medals, of which two were gold won by Neeraj Phogat and Pooja Rani. Neeraj staged an unexpected upset in victory against Tokyo Olympian Simranjit Kaur in a nail-biting 4-3 final in the 65kg category. AIP was placed third with seven medals, including one gold.
The championship saw 188 boxers from 24 state units contest ten weight categories. BFI President Ajay Singh announced a ₹50,000 cash award for outstanding performers and urged players to look towards international glory at the World Boxing Cup later this year. Jaismine Lamboria of Services was declared the Best Boxer, while Simranjit Kaur was the Best Challenger.
This championship not only showcased the depth of Indian women's boxing talent but also paved the way for future international tournaments.
