In a landmark move for India’s defence and aerospace sector, Dassault Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) have signed four Production Transfer Agreements to manufacture complete Rafale fighter jet fuselages in Hyderabad. This marks the first time in history that Rafale’s main body will be produced outside France, signaling a major boost for the ‘Make in India’ and AtmaNirbhar Bharat initiatives.

Key Highlights:

Historic Manufacturing Milestone: For the first time, Rafale fuselages will be produced outside France, with India set to become a global manufacturing hub for these advanced fighter jets.

Hyderabad Facility: TASL will establish a state-of-the-art production unit in Hyderabad, dedicated to manufacturing key structural sections of the Rafale, including the lateral shells of the rear fuselage, the complete rear section, central fuselage, and front section.

Production Timeline: The first fuselage sections are expected to roll off the assembly line by FY2028, with the facility aiming to deliver up to two complete fuselages per month.

Strategic Impact: This collaboration strengthens India’s aerospace manufacturing capabilities, supports global supply chains, and positions India as a critical player in the international aerospace sector.

Economic and Technological Boost: The initiative is expected to generate local employment, foster skill development, and enhance India’s technological footprint in high-precision manufacturing.

Leadership Statements: Eric Trappier, CEO of Dassault Aviation, called it a “decisive step in strengthening our supply chain in India,” while Sukaran Singh, CEO & MD of TASL, highlighted the deepening trust and progress in India’s aerospace journey.

Defence Modernization: The move comes as India continues to modernize its military, having already signed deals for 62 Rafale jets, with the new facility supporting both domestic needs and global markets.

This partnership not only cements Indo-French defence ties but also propels India towards self-reliance and global leadership in aerospace manufacturing.
