Clouds, Currents & Caution: IMD’s November Rain Forecast Unfolds Across India
As November begins, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded alerts for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across multiple regions of India. The lingering effects of the northeast monsoon and a western disturbance are driving widespread precipitation, with orange alerts issued for Gujarat and warnings extended to parts of the south and northeast.
Key Highlights from IMD’s Weather Bulletin:
Southern India Soaked
Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, and coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall over the next few days.
The northeast monsoon remains active over peninsular India, fueling consistent showers.
Eastern India Under Cloud Cover
West Bengal, especially North Bengal, continues to see light to moderate rainfall, with residual effects from Cyclone Montha still influencing the region.
Assam and Meghalaya have recorded heavy rainfall at isolated locations, with more expected.
Western India on Alert
An orange alert has been issued for Gujarat, particularly Saurashtra & Kutch, due to a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea.
Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra are also likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
Northern Hills to See Snowfall
From November 3, a fresh western disturbance is expected to bring light rain and snowfall to northwest India’s hill regions, signaling the onset of pre-winter conditions.
Forecast Validity & Outlook
The current spell of rainfall is expected to ease after November 4, but intermittent showers may persist in affected regions.
IMD advises caution for travelers and residents in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging.
As India transitions from monsoon to winter, the skies remain unpredictable. Whether you're planning a trip or prepping your home, it’s time to stay weather-wise and umbrella-ready.
