The India Meteorological Department, or IMD, forecasted heavy rain across the bulk of India for the upcoming week, with July 2025 to be a time of over average monsoon activity. IMD foresees rain to be above 106% of the Long Period Average (LPA), with the rainy spell already making day-to-day life challenging in many areas.
Key Highlights:
Heavy Rain Widespread: Central India, consisting of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, Telangana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, will witness the maximum heavy showers. Uttarakhand, Haryana, and northern regions of the area also risk flood and landslide.
Regional Variations: Most of the country will experience more-than-normal rainfall, while Northeast and East India and sections of the far South Peninsula will experience subnormal rainfall.
Temperature Relief: Below-average temperatures in most of the areas, but a few northeast and southern peninsula enclaves warmer.
Hazard Warnings: IMD issues warnings for possible flooding, landslides, blocking of roads, and interruption in transport and public health facilities, especially in river basin areas like the Godavari, Mahanadi, and Krishna.
Prospect: As the monsoon is moving forward early and rain is lashing in July, authorities are requesting the citizens to be careful and watch out for local advisories as heavy rain and related hazards will persist through the week.
