Reliance Power's subsidiary, NCJ Energies, has won the Letter of Award (LOA) for a 350 MW solar power project with a 175 MW battery energy storage system (BESS). The project, awarded by SJVN Ltd., is India's move towards dispatchable renewable energy options, guaranteeing good quality peak power supply.
1. Project Specification and Strategic Significance
The 350 MW solar project will be complemented by a 175 MW/700 MWh BESS, allowing for four-hour daily discharge to meet peak power supply.
The project was procured under SJVN's competitive bidding process, in which 19 bidders participated, with 18 qualifying for the e-reverse auction.
The successful tariff has been determined as ₹3.33 per kWh, which is binding for 25 years, making it one of the costliest renewable energy projects.
2. Reliance Power's Clean Energy Pipeline Expansion
Upon completion, the project will contribute 600 MWp of solar PV capacity and 700 MWh of storage to Reliance Power's pipeline.
Reliance Power's overall clean energy pipeline will increase to 2.5 GWp of solar and more than 2.5 GWh of BESS with this addition.
The project will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis to ensure sustainability in the long term.
3. Industry Impact and Future Prospect
The project is in consonance with India's renewable energy shift, ensuring grid stability and peak power management.
Reliance Power is also developing Asia's biggest integrated solar + BESS project, with a 930 MW solar plant and 465 MW/1,860 MWh BESS.
Investors and analysts view this as a big milestone in Reliance Power's strategic shift towards renewable energy.
