Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has once more made waves—literally and online—by posting what he himself called the "stupidest thing" he's ever done to mark Independence Day. In a now-viral Instagram video, Zuckerberg is surfing on a giant inflatable costume of the American flag colors, eliciting laughter and astonishment on social media.

The video opens with Zuckerberg on a boat, followed by the text: “Is this the stupidest thing we’ve done so far?” The clip then cuts to the tech mogul surfing in full inflatable regalia, continuing his now-annual tradition of over-the-top Independence Day stunts.

“Happy 4th of July!” he captioned the post, which quickly drew millions of views and a flood of comments.

The Internet Reacts
  • One user quipped: “Sam Altman would never.”
  • Another joked: "There was a cut in the footage. Technically, there's no evidence Zuck is in there."
  • A third said: "Didn't expect him to top last year's tuxedo-surfing-with-a-beer moment, but lo and behold."
  • Others speculated what stunt next year would entail: "Holding a live eagle with fireworks exploding off the board while sipping a beer in 2030?"
A Tradition of Techno-Patriotism
Zuckerberg's July 4th stunts are an annual spectacle
  • 2021: Surfed with the U.S. flag to the tune of "Born in the U.S.A."
  • 2024: Surfing in a tuxedo, with a flag and beer in hand
  • 2025: Inflatable costume surfing—his most absurd one yet, he says
The video, otherwise having been the target of jokes by himself regarding how absurd it was, has otherwise turned out to be viral and fans and critics alike debating how he'll do it better next year.
