In a significant boost to its renewable energy portfolio, Sarda Energy & Minerals Ltd (SEML) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Chhattisgarh Hydro Power LLP, has officially commenced commercial operations of the 24.9 MW Rehar-I Small Hydro Power Project. The company also confirmed that it has received regulatory approval for power procurement, paving the way for revenue generation and grid integration.

About the Rehar-I Project
Located in Chhattisgarh, the Rehar-I project is SEML’s second hydroelectric venture under Chhattisgarh Hydro Power LLP, following the successful operation of the 24 MW Gullu Small Hydro Project. With the commissioning of Rehar-I, the company’s total small hydro capacity now stands at nearly 49 MW.

The project had earlier entered trial production in January 2025 and has now transitioned to full-scale commercial operation. The company expects this to significantly enhance the performance and profitability of its hydro power subsidiary.

Power Procurement Approval
Alongside the operational milestone, SEML also received approval for power procurement, which allows the company to begin selling electricity generated from the Rehar-I project to the grid or eligible buyers. This regulatory green light is crucial for monetizing the project and contributing to the company’s clean energy revenues.

Company Outlook
Sarda Energy has been steadily expanding its footprint in renewable energy, particularly in hydro power, as part of its long-term strategy to diversify beyond its core steel and ferro alloys business. The company also operates iron ore and coal mines and has thermal power assets, but sees hydro as a sustainable and scalable growth engine.
