Two-time All England Open winner Viktor Axelsen suffered a shocking first-round loss at the 2025 All England Open, losing 21-19, 13-21, 21-11 to Taiwan's Lin Chun-Yi. The victory was Lin's first over the Danish phenomenon and destroyed Axelsen's bid for a third title at this high-ranked tournament.
Axelsen, visibly frustrated, admitted to having felt unwell during the match and proposed taking a long break to regain the top physically and mentally. "I didn't feel my best out there. My opponent played fantastically," he disclosed after the match.
The day also featured other surprises with India's PV Sindhu falling in the women's singles and a number of seeded players from across categories leaving early. On the other hand, South Korea's An Se-Young advanced effortlessly to the next round.
