If you’re a fan of classic Bollywood, here’s some exciting news: 'Sholay' is making a comeback for its 50th anniversary, and this time, it’s the full, uncut version. The film will premiere at the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival in Bologna, Italy, on June 27. This new release isn’t just a re-run; it includes scenes that were cut from the original, plus the ending that director Ramesh Sippy actually wanted.

Here’s what’s new and interesting about this release:

The uncut version brings back the original ending, where Thakur kills Gabbar Singh. This scene was cut from the 1975 release because of censorship rules.
You’ll get to see several deleted scenes that have never been shown before, giving a fresh look at the story and characters.

The restoration took three years. The Film Heritage Foundation and Sippy Films had to track down rare film reels in both London and Mumbai since the original negatives and 70mm prints were lost.
They managed to rebuild the film in 4K quality using whatever materials they could find, including old sound elements.

Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra, the film’s stars, have shared their excitement about the restored version, saying it’s a fitting tribute to the film’s legacy.
The premiere in Bologna will be held outdoors at the famous Piazza Maggiore, which should make for a memorable event.

This release is a chance for both longtime fans and new viewers to experience 'Sholay' as it was meant to be seen.
