Sadhana Shivdasani was once a household name, lighting up the silver screen and setting trends that millions followed. But her last years were a world away from the glamour and applause she once knew.
Here’s what happened during her final chapter:
-
Sadhana’s health took a serious downturn as she got older. She battled chronic illness and mounting medical bills, which made everyday life a struggle.
-
Money became tight. Despite her fame, she didn’t have much financial support, and the film industry she helped shape seemed to move on without her.
-
She also faced a series of legal headaches. Disputes with her landlord led to court battles that only added to her stress and drained her savings.
-
After her husband, director RK Nayyar, passed away in 1995, Sadhana was left on her own. The couple never had children, and she’d spoken openly about the heartbreak of losing a baby years before.
In her later years, her social circle shrank. Only a few close friends from her film days—like Waheeda Rehman, Nanda, Asha Parekh, and Helen—remained by her side. Their monthly lunches were a small comfort in an otherwise quiet life.
Sadhana’s acting career was cut short by health issues in the 1970s. Though she tried to make a comeback, the opportunities just weren’t there.
She passed away on December 25, 2015, in a Mumbai hospital, with just a handful of friends and relatives present.
Sadhana’s story is a reminder that even the brightest stars can face loneliness and hardship once the spotlight fades.
