India’s premium train segment is about to get a major upgrade. Kinet Railway Solutions, a joint venture between India and Russia, will unveil the design of the first AC coach for the Vande Bharat Sleeper train next week. This development is part of Indian Railways’ plan to launch two sleeper variants of the Vande Bharat Express, aimed at revolutionizing long-distance travel.
The sleeper coaches are being built at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, known for producing multiple variants of the Vande Bharat Express. The new design promises a blend of luxury and functionality, tailored for overnight journeys.
Comfort meets speed and innovation
The sleeper version of Vande Bharat is expected to feature plush berths, USB-charging reading lights, onboard showers, and a cruising speed of up to 180 km/h. The first prototype is scheduled for completion by June 2026, with full-scale rollout planned thereafter.
