Steering Dreams: Auto Driver’s Daughter Adiba Anam Makes UPSC History in Maharashtra

Adiba Anam, daughter of an autorickshaw driver from Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, made history by securing 142nd rank in the UPSC 2024 Civil Services Examination and becoming the state's first Muslim woman IAS officer. Hailing from a poor family, Adiba studied in government schools and later moved to Pune for college studies and UPSC preparation. A mathematics graduate, Adiba failed in her first three attempts but persisted with relentless determination.
 
Her father, Ashfaque Ahmed Sheikh, who couldn't study himself, worked day and night to fulfill her dreams. Adiba credits family support and personal determination for this extraordinary achievement. She aspires to work with poor and marginalized communities of society, especially for the empowerment of girls.
 
Her success has been widely acclaimed by political leaders, bureaucrats, and her hometown and has encouraged many young aspirants all over India.
