In a significant move to bolster healthcare infrastructure, the Delhi government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre to implement the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). This initiative aims to enhance primary healthcare services and prepare for future pandemics.
-
Infrastructure Expansion: 1,139 Urban Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs) will be established, including upgrading 553 existing mohalla clinics and opening 413 new ones.
-
Financial Allocation: Approximately ₹2,406 crore will be allocated for improving health infrastructure, including constructing AAMs, integrated public health laboratories, and critical care blocks.
-
Health Services: The AAMs will offer comprehensive services such as mother and child care, immunization, and treatment for non-communicable diseases.
-
Laboratories and Critical Care: Eleven integrated public health laboratories and nine critical care blocks will be set up across Delhi.
-
Beneficiaries: The scheme is expected to benefit around 36 lakh people in Delhi.
This development marks a significant shift in Delhi's healthcare policy, following a change in government leadership. The implementation of PM-ABHIM aligns with the broader goal of strengthening public health infrastructure nationwide.
