The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has now begun making non-personal, anonymized statistics from its Aadhaar Dashboard available on the government's open data portal, data.gov.in, a major step towards making data available for improved transparency and evidence-based policy-making. The data made available are aggregated statistics on Aadhaar enrolment, updates, and authentication trends, by geography, age group, and other significant parameters.
This step is aimed at enabling academic researchers, digital entrepreneurs, and policymakers by making available real-world, anonymized data-without harming the privacy of individuals. The initiative of UIDAI is likely to spur research, enable innovation in digital services, and facilitate the creation of more specialized welfare and inclusion programs.
By releasing these datasets, UIDAI reiterates its commitment to safe data governance and adds to the government's overall vision of utilizing maximum open data in the interests of the general public, digital inclusion, and increased efficiency of governance.
