Delhi is in a state of high alert as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted the onset of the southwest monsoon on June 24—earlier than the normal date—bringing relief to the city from the suffocating heat and humidity. The city and its suburbs, such as Gurugram and Noida, are ready for a couple of days of heavy rain, thunderstorms, and wind.

Key Highlights
  • Monsoon Onset: The southwest monsoon will probably reach Delhi by Tuesday, June 24, one of the earliest to hit the city in years and ahead of the customary June 30 entry.
  • IMD Warnings: Yellow warning for Delhi and NCR, anticipating light to moderate rain, thundershowers, lightning, and gusty winds of 50 kmph or less, primarily on Tuesday.
Weather Forecast:

It is forecast cloudy weather and moderate rain from June 23–June 25 with the maximum temperature at 34–35°C and high humidity.

Midweek thunderstorm activity would become more pronounced, particularly on June 26th and 27th, leading to heavier showers and waterlogging of low-lying areas.
  • Air Relief: Delhi's air has already improved following pre-dawn rains, as the AQI dipped to a 'satisfactory' reading (96).
  • Regional Effect: Gurugram and Noida are also placed on red alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms, with the same weather forecast for the week.
  • Public Advisory: People are advised to take precautions while venturing out, as high humidity, showers, and thunderstorms together are expected to produce disturbances in day-to-day life and traffic.
  • Agricultural Advisory: Farmers should arrange the proper protection of the crops and animals for the duration of bad weather.
IMD stressed that the current weather conditions—easterly wind, high humidity, and a temperature dip—are extremely conducive to the advancement of the monsoon. Delhi has already recorded more than its normal June average rainfall, indicating a good beginning to the season.
